K.
Hovnanian Homes, headquartered in Redbank, New Jersey, is one of
the nation's largest builders of new homes. In 2009, as part of
their continued growth and commitment to quality, K. Hovnanian
Homes created a High Performance HomesTM offering, a new
level of quality and performance it delivers across the board in
all of the new homes they build in Maryland, Virginia, West
Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Partnering with IBACOS, a Building America research team leader,
K. Hovnanian's Landover Group builds research homes to evaluate new
and emerging technologies, ensuring that they are production ready
for their business and can be incorporated into their homes with
little to no additional cost to the homeowner.
Built
in a Washington, D.C. suburb, Landover Group's most recent research
home is the first home in Virginia to meet Building America's
Builders Challenge. The home achieves a "50" on the Energy Smart
Home Scale, which is comparable to the HERS Index rating
scale, and adheres to the Builders Challenge Quality Criteria, a
set of best practices for durability, comfort, and indoor air
quality in homes. It is also ENERGY STAR for Homes and LEED
for Homes certified and has achieved the Gold Level in NAHB's
National Green Building Program.
Through the Alliance, K. Hovnanian Homes is sharing best
practices, ideas and lessons learned with other builders who are
striving for greater energy performance.
